Thank you for watching part 3, the finale, of my video series for the first mead that I am making specifically for a mead competition! The competition is "The Mead Stampede" and this particular brew I am creating is for the "Cattle Battle," which is a side quest where competitors are given a list of ingredients and asked to recreate a mead that the founders have created. We are given the ingredients but NOT the recipe! Part 1 To make this brew I put the following into a 1 gallon carboy: 2.5lbs of raw almond honey 10 oz of vanilla chai tea 52oz of organic pear juice 1/2 packet of Lalvin K1-V1116 (Kevin) yeast Spring water to fill Starting gravity: 1.102 Part 2 I added 15 oz of organic pear halves in their juices 1 cinnamon stick (toasted) .5oz of allspice berries (toasted) .1 oz of grated nutmeg .5 oz of star anise (toasted) 1 oz green cardamom 1 oz of vanilla bean paste Final Gravity: 1.001 Appx ABV @ 13% Total yield: 108 fluid oz How to calculate ABV of mead: Starting Gravity - Final Gravity x 131.25 OR just download the app: ABV Calculator
