Sathya and Prakash return from their first day at work. Sathya is worried as Prakash has taken a detour on his way back home from the office, covering a stretch of bad roads, just to pick her up. Prakash elaborates that Sathya is an officer while he is a clerk (workload). Hence he is helping Sathya reach home easily after a tough day at work by picking her up, himself gaining some happiness and quality time with her. Chidambaram appreciates their concern for each other and informs that Janaki is washing clothes in the backyard. Sathya rushes to take away the task from her. Prakash volunteers to take over this task. On an egalitarian note, Prakash elaborates that both men and women should be able to wash each others clothes alike, even if it is against the norms prevalent in the society. Adding that he understands the effort a woman puts in her day, both at home and office, and how women work harder than even machines, Prakash insists that he shall wash the clothes from now on. Summarising beautifully, he says that men get retired from work, but women rarely get retirement from their household responsibilities. All are looking dumbstruck at Prakash in appreciation and joy, realising how far he has come from his old chauvinist ways. Opining that every successful man has been backed by a toiling woman at home, he declares he shall not be one amongst those men and takes charge of doing the laundry. Women have never realised the greatness and importance of their sacrifice. As he gets down to work, Sathya teaches Prakash how to wash the clothes and he learns like a diligent student as Chidambaram and Janaki admire the couple in love with admiration.
