The finest in Teutonic BOOM! I played all the instruments since the original recording is copyright blocked. Sorry, I don't sing. This song is great fun to play, and is a potentially easy drum song for somewhat higher-level beginners. The kick drum isn’t fancy, on the quarter notes nearly throughout, doubling the snare on 2 and 4. All the fills are on the snare. There are no crazy drumming pyrotechnics - Christoph Schneider is capable of much more, but this martial beat fit the song perfectly. I am playing it really close to the original, so I hope this can serve as a sort of lesson or tutorial for anyone trying to learn it. Use YouTube’s “playback speed” setting to slow it down if you are having trouble figuring something out. The hi-hats are on the 8th notes with just a couple of places where there are two quarter notes instead. Easy. The only hard part is when to open the hat (hence the foot cam!). During the choruses, they are always open. During the verses and the break, they are generally closed. The exception starts at 1:46, where they open-close-repeat for about 12 seconds. I got used to this by just to start playing it slow and speeding up. It’s certainly not impossible with practice. The snare fills are sometimes fast, so concentrating on timing is important, particularly the long snare 16ths near the beginning. It also took me some time to get the hang of of playing less hard at the right times, as the temptation with this song is just to pound away. That took a lot of play throughs, particularly on the fill at about 4:22. My favourite fill is at 2:47 or so, just a little variation on the standard beat to change things up. Nothing flashy, but cool. There are two identical triplets fills in this song, one right before the bridge at about 3:50 and one right at the end at about 5:10. I may not be the best person to explain how I played them, since I just practices away and got them, and only later realized they were triplets! Hahaha! But anyway, you are jamming 6 snares into a two count (the 3 and the 4 in that bar). The kick continues as usual, on the 3 and 4, so put your foot on autopilot. Snares 1 and 4 fall on the beat, with the kick. Other than that, I don’t know how to explain what my brain did here, but I just kind of dragged the snares out in my head so they fit, with three spread equally over one beat! Sorry, you might have better look doing a search for a lesson on triplets if you have trouble with these fills. I guess that’s about it. Other than that, just pound away and have fun! So, maybe one day on my other channel (CrummyMusician) I’ll do an instrumental cover video, but for now, since I played all the instruments to avoid the copyright block,m a note on equipment. Drums: Roland TD-30, custom kit. All the low guitars: Radix Saint with fat strings (.11-.62),. effectively turning it into a normal-scale baritone guitar, tuned Drop C (CGCFAD). Wish I had an actual baritone guitar, since this way gave me intonation problems. But it was cheaper. High, fast guitar part: Jackson DKNG, tuned Drop C also, as I wanted that EMG sound there. As all that part is on the high E string, I actually only bothered retuning that one string… Amp: Straight into the computer, and then used Guitar Rig 5’s “Rammfire” expansion, which makes it easy to get close enough to a Rammstein sound.
