We are beginning a brand-new sermon series titled "By Faith" as we journey through Hebrews 11, often referred to as the Hall of Faith. In this opening message from Hebrews 11:1–6, we explore what faith is, why faith matters, and how faith pleases God. We consider the biblical definition of faith as assurance and conviction, and then look at two early examples of faith—Abel, whose offering was accepted because it was offered by faith, reminding us that God looks first at the heart of the worshipper, and Enoch, whose life is summed up in one powerful testimony: he walked with God. The message concludes with the sobering truth of Hebrews 11:6, that without faith it is impossible to please God, calling us to trust that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
