It supplies district heating to 3.4 million square meters, meeting 65% of Gaoling District’s heating demand and serving 35,000 households. During the 2024–2025 heating season, this integration reduced natural gas consumption by 16 million cubic meters and cut heating company costs by 55% — a powerful demonstration of how WtE can enhance urban energy resilience while lowering carbon emissions. The plant also processes sludge, leachate, and biogas residue from surrounding facilities, transforming waste management into a multi-stream circular system. By March 2025, it had processed 80,000 tons of sludge, 20,000 tons of leachate, and 30,000 tons of biogas residue, while generating 1.35 million GJ of heat energy. •Designing with Purpose Instead of hiding industrial structures behind walls, the Xi’an Gaoling project celebrates its role in the city.
