Catechumenate ministers often ask us what the best resource is for teaching catechumens and candidates. And the answer we give might be surprising! The best and perhaps least utilized resource for teaching our faith is the liturgical year. And this year, we have two great, unique opportunities to encounter Christ in the cross and the font. In 2025, we get to celebrate two feast days that usually happen during the week but this year fall on a Sunday: the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14; and the Solemnity of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome on November 9. As you think of how you will be training your catechumens in their Christian life of discipleship, don’t overlook these two amazing feast days because the resources you need are already in your church spaces, namely your Cross and your font. In this short video, Diana looks at some of the areas for catechesis that pour out of these two significant dates in our liturgical year and how you might catechize through the liturgical year and your liturgical spaces in more engaging and creative ways for all the faithful.
