✅WATCH THE NEW 2026 NOME FILM: • Nome, big trip: Town, Prices, Gold Rush, N... Nome is not a part of Alaska 'mainland', meaning it is not connected to the state highway system and you can't drive here from, say, Anchorage. But there is a couple so-called "highways" leading out of Nome that are seasonal gravel roads, some taking you nowhere. Council is a point on the map, an abandoned settlement that you can't even get to because the road stops at the river you can't cross. Yet the drive itself is inspiring. Nome and Council are 70 miles apart which by Nome's standards is a long distance to drive, considering Nome itself is compact and everything is located a couple miles within town. The road between Nome and Council is very basic and may not be well-maintained, so it could be a challenging drive out of season. Additionally, the weather in Alaska can be unpredictable, and there may be harsh conditions, such as snow and ice, that could make the drive difficult. I totally enjoyed this highway and would love to go back for another ride when I have a chance. Hope you'll like it too.
