تتناول هذه المحاضرة صورة الكنيسة في القرن الثاني الميلادي من خلال قراءة تحليلية لأقدم الوثائق اللاتينية الخاصة بمحاضر استشهاد شهداء سيليوم (180م)، مع مقارنتها بشهادات معاصرة من آباء الكنيسة ومصادر غير مسيحية. نسعى لفهم طبيعة الاتهام الموجّه للمسيحيين، ودلالة عبارة «أنا مسيحي» في السياق القانوني الروماني، وكيف أسهمت سير الشهداء في تشكيل الوعي الكنسي المبكر. قراءة تاريخية تضع النصوص في سياقها، وتعيد طرح السؤال: هل كان تكريم الشهداء تطورًا لاحقًا، أم ممارسة متجذّرة في الكنيسة الأولى؟ This lecture examines the condition of the Church in the second century AD through an analytical reading of the earliest surviving Latin martyrdom records, particularly the Acts of the Scillitan Martyrs (180 AD), alongside contemporary Christian and non-Christian testimonies. It explores the legal accusations brought against Christians, the juridical significance of the declaration “I am a Christian” within the Roman imperial context, and the role of martyr narratives in shaping early Christian identity.
