Cycling Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai day 5

Today started with a transfer to the Choui Fong Tea Plantation. A large area beautifully presented with a modern central building for visitors. We enjoyed tasting some of the delicious teas of different intensities. Setting off on the bikes from here to ride through rice paddies and farmland to stop at a couple of temples, the second one for the morning snack break. Onwards to the Golden Triangle. As we approached it was a bit of a shock to see massive high rise buildings on the horizon. It turned out that these were over the river in Laos. After lunch we walked around the big Buddha to the point where Myanmar, Thailand and Laos meet at the confluence of the rivers Ruak and Mekong. Next was a visit to the Opium Museum which depicted the history of the Opium trade. Finally we rode alongside the Mekong and into the countryside for a while to our accommodation for the night. In the evening we enjoyed dinner by the river looking across the river to Laos.
