🐝 Big Delicious Planet is a seminal catering operation in Chicago, and Heidi runs an absolutely sick garden in the West Loop—complete with a few thriving bee boxes. I’d been wanting to record bees for a while, and this setup was perfect. Listening to bees is one of nature’s most therapeutic sounds. In fact, some hipster European getaway cabins have bee colonies placed just on the other side of a screen wall—so you can fall asleep to their gentle hum. This piece blends those buzzing textures with music inspired by the chaos and harmony of the hive. Randomized rhythms and melodies drift and swirl, anchored by a grounding drone and a binaural beat centered around 587 Hz (D5)—a frequency associated with fluidity, sensuality, and creative flow.
