You will be surprised how the DX7 can faithfully re-creates the 80's hits, Van Halen Dreams, Rush The Big Money and Pseudo Echo Funky Town. This video demonstrates the Yamaha DX7 sounds with a synth string pad, layered brass sound and a ‘funky’ and punchy brass patch. Excluding drums, many sounds featured, including pad as well as bass sounds are created and fine-tuned by myself, using my DX7 front panel only (no patch editor used). Video Contents 0:00 – Van Halen Dreams (short arrangement, focusing on the string sound part only) I have re-created a beautiful synth string pad that you hear in the song, Dreams. Unlike analog synths, it’s quite a challenge for the DX7 to produce a ‘pure sawtooth’ sound. You really need to ‘tame’ the DX7 FM Synthesis engine, so that it isn’t producing unnecessary harmonics, especially mid harmonics. You can also hear an electric piano-like sound which is actually a variation of my acoustic piano. I could cut down mid harmonics using EQs to make it more like acoustic piano, but I left it untouched. The acoustic guitar sound is downloaded from the Internet (called ‘12 Stg Gtr’) and I used it without any editing. 2:13 – Rush, The Big Money (Short arrangement, only for the intro) This is one of my favourite songs from my favourite band, Rush. It has an amazing brass sound at the beginning and the end. I created a similar brass sound using two different DX7 brass patches. The main one is a variation of the powerful and punchy brass patch featured in my DX7 demo video, The Final Countdown, Europe. Another brass patch adds extra harmonics that are present in the original brass sound. By using my Yamaha TX802 (DX7 II module version), I was able to layer those two patches. Additional layering can be done using orchestral or string pads to make ‘fatter’. 3:06 –Pseudo Echo, Funky Town (short arrangement, focusing on the punchy brass sound only) This funky brass patch is a variation of the punchy brass patch that I used for my DX7 demo video, The Final Countdown. It has a ‘TWO’ Pitch EGs effect which are considered impossible for the DX7 to achieve, since it only has ‘ONE’ Pitch EG!!!!!!!!!!! Also this powerful DX7 brass patch is packed with harmonics, it's so powerful that I have to cut down the DX7 output volume a lot to stop my Lexicon MX400 effect processor from clipping (yes, gets into a Red Zone) and distortion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also you can hear a pad sound (which I used instead of a guitar sound).
