A.K. Kaiza. Kaiza is a Ugandan writer and journalist, who joined the media in 1994. Kaiza has worked for a number of years at the former Uganda Television and for some time at The East African newspaper, as a reporter at large, but also as pioneering art and literary journalist and critic. He has worked in Kenya as literary editor for Kwani, as well as editor of the online arts magazine, AfricanColours. For the first issue of Debunk Quarterly, Kaiza has written about the violent birth of Uganda's capital city Kampala. In his own words: "What I’ve written here is my experience of Kampala the city. You know there is the city itself but there’s also what it stood for and what it meant. There’s a history of the city which is very long but then there’s a history of the colonial city as this kind of machine that churned out who we are. I wasn’t born in the city. I first came to Kampala in the 1980s. The place scared me. It continued to scare me for a long time." Read the full story: https://debunk.media/quarterly/the-vi...
