Andre Gavrilov (b.1955 - ) was only 21 when this recording was made in 1976. It came out on the joint Melodiya-CBS Masterworks label in 1981. This is an excellent performance by the young Gavrilov. While perhaps lacking some of the fireworks of other performances - Gavrilov seems to be totally at ease, technically on point, and in synch with the orchestra. In researching this, I found that many aficionados of the Rach 3rd include this among their favorite performances. Details: Album title: Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto Number 3.
