PM Modi chairs 13th BRICS summit, global leader discuss Afghan turmoil

On Thursday, 9th September, PM Modi chaired the 13th BRICS summit. BRICS summit is an international relations conference attended by the heads of state or heads of government of the five member states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. After 2012 and 2016, this was the third time when India hosted the meet. The summit was held virtually as a preventive measure for Covid-19. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South Africa and Brazil attended the meeting to discuss the ongoing turmoil in Afghanistan after the Taliban took over Kabul. The discussion also revolved around terror threat, rights violation and the Taliban rule in Afghanistan. PM Modi also said that despite going through Covid we were able to organise conferences and the Chinese President said that BRICS is an important force to be reckoned and that it has supported multi lateralism.
