Magnetic refrigeration using the magnetocaloric effect of gadolinium

In the first part of the video (until 1:30) we can see how the magnetocaloric effect heats the piece of gadolinium from 21.9 to 22.5 Celsius when it is placed between two magnets. In the second part (from 1:30), when I take appart the magnets, we can observe a decreasing of temperature from 21.9 to 21.6 with a shor heat peak due to the contact with my fingers. It is due to the extreme sensitivity of the temperature sensors. An improvement of this set up will be to isolate very well the gadolinium in order to record better the heat exchanges.
