Starting at a tranquil mountain lake, I trekked upward to a higher alpine basin and then onward to a secluded, lesser-known spot, strategically stashing gear along the way to lighten the load. On the third day, I made a massive 17-mile push on foot to reach the river confluence with a major creek, where I put in my pack-raft and braced for what came next. From intense thunderstorms and hail to long delays from lightning and freezing rain, day four tested my resilience in every way — with no dry suit and miles of water still ahead. I had to stop, build a fire, dry off, and reset. The final stretch included navigating technical whitewater sections, fully aware of how far off the grid I was. This wasn’t a trip about conquering nature — it was about adapting, enduring, and connecting deeply with the wild.
