SKI ARLBERG (ST. ANTON, ST. CHRISTOPH, STUBEN, LECH, ZÜRS, WARTH, SCHRÖCKEN) The famous five-star ski resort offers the perfect place for winter fun. You will find an incredible number of slopes of all levels of difficulty, almost fifty lifts and guaranteed snow cover from December to April, that is exactly what the luxury Vorarlberg resort Lech Zürs is. Stunning scenery, superbly groomed slopes, dizzying open terrain, lots of winter activities, Alpine wellness treatments, great service and perfect facilities await you here. For more than 100 years, Lech Zürs on the Arlberg has been one of the best winter sports areas in the world. Luxury hotels and apartments are of the highest standard and cultural and sporting events further enhance the popularity of the entire area. Lech Zürs can be found in western Austria on the border of two federal states: Tyrol and Vorarlberg. The other famous resort in western Austria is also located in the immediate vicinity: St. Anton. The places are connected by ski buses, and if you buy an Arlberg super ski pass, you can explore almost 340 kilometers of slopes. This makes Arlberg one of the largest winter resorts in the world. The area got its name from an old village, abandoned until the surrounding slopes were built. Lech forms one ski area with Zürs, which is slightly higher (1716 m). Lech-Zürs is connected by cable car to another resort, Schröcken-Warth, which doubles the number of slopes in the entire area. And although this resort is a favorite of royal families (the Queen of the Netherlands comes here regularly every year), all winter sports enthusiasts will find something for themselves here. The main thing that is ideal about Lech is that, due to the number of slopes, there is practically no risk of queues for the lifts and you will usually not be blocked by crowds of skiers anywhere. It is true that the prices of accommodation directly in Lech are a little more expensive, but if you calculate the price-performance ratio, Lech will come out as one of the best ski areas in Austria. The slopes in the area are connected by the so-called "Weisse Ring" or a 22 km marked circuit, overcoming almost 5,500 m of elevation gain leading from Lech via Rüfikopf and Hexenboden to Zürs and from there back via Zug and Oberlech. The place is thus perfectly connected and you can enjoy the diversity of skiing on different hills. Lech was originally founded in the 14th century by the Walsers, who immigrated from Switzerland. The city has a rich agricultural history, which it still preserves today. Lech is located in the Vorarlberg region, right next to the Tyrol region, and between them lies the Arlberg mountain range. The area is made up of several villages connected by roads and ski runs. Oberlech is the closest and sits just above Lech as a beautiful cluster of hotels and houses. Zug is further west and the mountains in this direction are known as Little Canada. Further north is Warth, a small town where in 1894 Father Johann Müller read about how Scandinavians travel on skis. He ordered a pair of these skis from Scandinavia and began to practice on them in secret so that he could eventually visit all his parishioners and fellow priests in the mountains. When he was discovered, half the locals supposedly thought he was in collusion with the devil, the other half went home and made their own skis and the rest, as they say, is history and Johann Müller is credited with bringing skiing to the Alps. Further south is Zürs, a small village with mostly hotels, and then Stuben, the birthplace of the famous Hannes Schneider, who developed the Arlberg technique with the Stem Christie arch, the forerunner of the modern parallel arch that spread throughout the ski world in the early 20th century. Further south is the small village of St. Christoph high up at 1800 m and then St. Anton.
