NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Unreleased Associated Recording Studios acetate disc) Five months before Joanne Engle recorded and issued as Amy Records 918, 'He's Looking This Way' on the B-side coupled with 'Don't Wait Up For Me Mother', this demo version was recorded in August 1964. Typewritten on the acetate label was the original listed title of 'He's Lookin' This Way' that would have grammar clean-up for the official release. For this demo, only a double-tracked lead vocal without background vocals over a simple arrangement having a different rhythm than the production on the released Amy single. While the released version raised the overall pitch of the recording in comparison to this first version of the song, it is still the vocal performance that which the then sixteen-year-old Miss Engel impressively displayed. This songstress really was more than just a teen, girly pop vocalist. At the age of four, she made her television debut on the then popular program, 'Star Time', an American variety series that aired on the DuMont Television Network from 1950 to 1951. At the age of eight, she became professional, appearing in many radio and television commercials which included, Campbell's Soup, Post Cereals, American Airlines, Chef Boy-Ar-Dee and Ipana Toothpaste. By the time she was twelve years old she began her recording career which brought her touring and appearances to promote her records. Not only did Miss Engel sing but played the piano and drums. As each of her recordings were released, her vocal chops matured quite impressively. Joanne's vocal style was strong, pitch perfect and compatible to the likes of Connie Francis, Peggy March and Lesley Gore. As the 1960's moved into the 1970's, Joanne was honing her on point musical talent with finesse and put together a stage show that brough her to numerous hotels and supper clubs in the United States and abroad. With a musical repertoire of songs in English, Yiddish, Italian, Spanish and French, she shared the stage with the likes of Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Nipsey Russell, Red Buttons, Don Rickles, Dom Delouise and many others. Today, Joanne is married, retired and living in New York.
