Winter has arrived in Cheesman Canyon—at least on the calendar. After an unseasonably warm stretch in Colorado, I head into the canyon to see how the trout are setting up in near-perfect winter conditions. Despite sunny skies and mild air temperatures, the fish had already transitioned into their winter lies. Shallow runs were empty, and success came from staying mobile, spotting fish from the trail, and targeting deep pools and medium-fast troughs that held actively feeding trout. With more anglers in the canyon than expected, every decision mattered. I broke down the water, committed to the most productive run, and adjusted my rig by going deep and downsizing flies to trigger bites in pressured winter conditions. Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you on the water. 00:00 Introduction 00:56 Arriving on the water 01:51 Strategy change 03:29 First Fish 04:30 Success 06:26 Second Fish 08:22 Fishing Report
