This video shows how Half-Life 2 WOULD appear, if rendered through the TMS9929A chip, which was used in TI-99/4A, ColecoVision, and in the MSX (I/O & CPU speed disregarded). In addition, the audio was rendered through the SN76494 soundchip, which was used in TI-99/4A, Tandy 1000, and in the MSX. (Note: YouTube blurs the video severely. I can't help it.) Video technical specs: 256x192 pixel resolution; fixed 15 color palette (hardware-assigned, non-reassignable); for every 8x1 section only 2 distinct colors can be used. Audio technical specs: Three square wave channels, each with separately adjustable volume in (0..15) range and pitch in 110..115000 Hz range; one noise channel with three distinct noise patterns and adjustable volume. This synthesizer varies the pitch&volume parameters of each channel 40 times per second, using an FFT-matching iterative heuristic algorithm, to produce the closest possible representation of PCM signal. Very surprisingly, the speech rendered by this system is actually understandable. Here's the source code of the program I used to treat the audio: https://bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/kuvat/pr... Instructions on use are included in the file.
