Reaching Via del Sale with a 7m long camper (Mercedes Benz Sprinter, Hymer ML-T 580 4x4 Oberaigner) - is that possible? We have been asking us for a while already if we can make it with our 4x4 Camper up to the ligurian mountain border road using the tiny gravel pathes - now we have tried it out! As according to our information all italian access ways are closed for vehicles greater than 3.5t, we chose to make the attempt from the French village of La Brigue via Col Linaire, Denzel code 387. The paved part of the road ends at the chapel "Notre Dame des Fontaines" with its impressive frescos. Between the chapel and Col Linaire there is a pleasently wide gravel road with beautiful views to the valleys of Levensa and Roya and the mountain border road. The real challenge for our vehicle with it's large dimensions then started from Col Linaire to the finish: the narrow, bumpy, steep and partly muddy path worried us, especially as we had vehicles passing us four times. But after approx. 30 tense minutes we had made it and we indeed reached the ligurian mountain border road with our almost 7 m long camper! Up here we were rewarded by great views and took the time for a tasty lunch. Friendly Landrover drivers gave us some compliments for our achievement. After a while we started our return on the same way, as the usage of the mountain road was forbidden for our vehicle's weight. More info on https://4x4camper.wordpress.com
