WE DANCE; THEY RAGE Post-Simchat Torah Workshop Do you define yourself by what you love or by what you hate? By what offends you or by what you stand for? Do you even know what you stand for? Are you a product of circumstances and of others attitudes (parents, educators, marketers, media, society)? Is your identity determined by others expectations and standards, or is it generated from within yourself? Many profound lessons about our identities can be gleaned the holiday season that has just concluded with Simchat Torah. And especially from contrasting it with the Arab rage that has recently reared its ugly head yet again. Jews and Judaism have been insulted, persecuted and murdered over the centuries, far more than any blasphemy hurled at Islam. Why then do we dance while they rage? Salman Rushdie says about Muslim anger: "You define yourself by what offends you. You define yourself by what outrages you." As they rage while we dance, please join Rabbi Jacobson for a special post-Simchat Torah workshop and learn how the High Holidays help us discover our true identities -- not one defined by others or by hate, but who you really are from within. And how to ensure that your identity (not others) shapes your life. And how to teach this lesson to the entire world, including those that rage.
