Mark O'Connor arranged the Canadian folk song "Brave Wolfe" for violin and trumpet after an iconic interaction with the trumpet virtuoso Wynton Marsalis. The two met for the first time on stadium field at the 1996 Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies. Each artist was featured on their own original composition and performed them while atop their musical floats; one float for jazz music, the other representing country music. During rehearsals when the sound system was muted, the two men bellowed out musical phrases towards each other acoustically in the stadium as their floats came near. These call-and-response escapades began their career-long conversation—a musical one before any word was ever uttered.
