I've been working quite a bit with the Moog Labyrinth and thought it would be interesting to augment it with a small system for live performance. Since the Labyrinth generates a clock as well as two sequences with pitch and gates, I'm curious to explore the percussive side of Plaits with it. There are four sounds: There are a high and low oscillator from the Moog Labyrinth. The higher oscillator starts us off. The lower oscillator enters second and sounds like a tom-tom initially. The third sound is a bass sequence played by a Curtis chip-based analog oscillator, via a low-pass gate. Finally, Plaits enters, playing a Kick drum-like knocking sound. Labyrinth has some interesting ways to modify the Sine and Triangle waveforms of its two oscillators: these include wavefolding, morphing low-pass/band-pass filter, decaying white noise generator, ring modulation and frequency modulation (FM). Labyrinth is also being delayed by DPLR, and all sources are getting a bit (or a lot) of spring reverb. Some compression was added in post-production. Left to right: 4ms Rotating Clock Divider with expander (unused in this video), Synthrotek passive MULT, GinkoSynthese EZSQ (8-step sequencer), Synthrotek XFD crossfader, Sonic Potions Penrose Quantizer, Division 6, CEM3340 analog oscillator, Barton Musical Circuits BMC099 (Dual A-R generator), Synthrotek LPG (low-pass gate), Sound Study Modular clone of Mutable Instruments' Plaits macro-oscillator, Steady State Fate/WMD DPLR (VC delay and chorus), AI Synthesis AI008 4x3 matrix mixer (with a stereo returns expander of my own design), MusicThing Modular Spring reverb controller (the Accutronics Reverb tank is mounted on the top of the case), and the Intellijel µJack (audio outputs).
