How is Lorenza doing, my Amazon parrot, with fatty liver disease? My 2 previous videos on FLD: • Living With Fatty Liver Disease for An Ama... • Lorenza Update: Living with FLD (Fatty Liv... What Is FLD (Fatty Liver Disease)? Fatty liver disease, also known as hepatic lipidosis, is a condition in which the liver becomes saturated with fat. This can occur in parrots and other birds as a result of a number of factors, including obesity, sudden weight loss, or an improper diet. Obesity is the most common cause of fatty liver disease in parrots. Parrots are prone to becoming overweight if they are fed a diet that is too high in fats and sugars and if they do not get enough exercise. Sudden weight loss can also lead to fatty liver disease, as the liver is unable to process the sudden influx of fat. This can happen if a parrot becomes ill and stops eating, or if it is subjected to a crash diet. An improper diet can also contribute to the development of fatty liver disease. Parrots need a diet that is high in protein and low in fats, and they should also have access to fresh vegetables. A diet that is high in seeds and nuts, or that is deficient in essential vitamins and minerals, can also lead to fatty liver disease. Symptoms of fatty liver disease in parrots may include a loss of appetite, weight loss, lethargy, jaundice, and an enlarged liver. It is a serious condition that can be fatal if left untreated. A veterinarian will be able to diagnose fatty liver disease through blood tests and by examining the liver. Treatment for fatty liver disease typically includes dietary changes and the administration of medication to help the liver process fat. In some cases, the bird may need to be force-fed to ensure that it is getting enough nutrition. It is important to prevent fatty liver disease in parrots by maintaining a healthy diet and weight, and by providing plenty of exercise and opportunities for physical activity. Regular check-ups with a veterinarian can also help catch the disease early and start treatment before it becomes severe —- MISSION https://parrotbliss.com/ - help increase blissful bonds to reduce the need for parrot rescues.
