I only list products I have personally tested and vouch for.) In today's video, I give a quick tutorial on making agar plates for growing mushroom mycelium. Learning to use agar is an essential step for every mushroom grower to level up their game; however, not every agar plate is created equally. There are two essential recipes that I use to make plates and I always have both of these varieties on hand. I’ll go through the two critical recipes I use to grow myshroom mycelium on agar, as well as how to make your own plates by sterilizing your agar and pouring it into plates. The two agar recipes I use have one key difference, which is the amount of nutrients they contain. I always keep some nutrient-dense agar plates around, as well as some plates with little-to-no nutrients. The nutrient-dense agar plates are great for giving your clean mushroom cultures the proper nourishment needed to thrive. The nutrient-lacking agar plates are great for isolating mushroom mycelium away from contaminants when the culture isn't completely clean. Information for this video was acquired from a variety of sources, including personal experimentation, but notably — as mentioned in the video — PGT's "Ez as 123" Agar tutorial was instrumental in my initial understanding of this topic. It contains a recipe that I still use to this day. You can find that video here: • PGT Agar Cups Recipe (Ez as 123) Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:23 Background 0:59 Recipes 2:01 Supplies 3:10 Agar Preparation
