Let's enjoy our Playlist for ALL 09 Pieces from ABRSM Piano Grade 3 2025 - 2026 here: • ALL 09 Pieces Grade 3 (ABRSM 25-26) A:3 – Tarantella Twist (from Piano Grades Are Go!, Grade 2-3) by Victoria Proudler (1975*) Note from ABRSM Victoria Proudler is a pianist, teacher and composer who believes strongly in the importance of imagination and expression in music. She writes; 'A successful musical performance always tells a story, awakens memories, stirs feelings and emotions', adding: 'This can only be achieved through an understanding of the performance directions.' The hairpins and dynamics add to the urgency of this dramatic dance and will help you shape it. To ensure they are even, listen carefully to the quavers as they pass from one hand to the other, particularly in bars 24 and 26 - make sure your audience can't hear the joins! Note from channel Difficulty evaluation (for Grade 3): 8/10 Tarantelle Twist by Victoria Proudler embodies the spirit of the lively tarantella dance, demanding both technical agility and expressive storytelling. Proudler emphasizes that a successful performance should evoke emotions and memories, which can only be fully realized through a deep understanding of the performance directions. Given the rapid tempo characteristic of a tarantella, achieving a fluid and well-blended phrase requires a combination of wrist motion and finger legato. Maintaining relaxation in the wrist will facilitate smoother transitions and prevent tension, allowing for greater control and clarity in articulation. In bars 9 to 16, dynamic shaping plays a crucial role. The right hand should lead the crescendo, with the left hand gradually following to create a balanced increase in volume. Attention to this detail will enhance the musical intensity and maintain structural coherence. The passage from bars 21 to 28 presents a significant technical challenge. Special care should be taken to avoid unintended accents, particularly with the thumbs on G-sharp. Focused practice on this section, with careful finger control and evenness, will ensure a refined execution. By integrating these technical considerations with an expressive interpretation, one can bring out the full excitement and energy of Tarantelle Twist, making it a captivating and dynamic performance. #pianogradepathway #abrsmpiano #pianotips
