Don't know where to start with motorcycle helmets? Check out this helmet tutorial to see the different styles and some of the important characteristics of each. Whether it's a street bike helmet, cruiser skully, off-road brain bucket or touring lid, there's a huge selection of safety equipment designed to protect the most important part of a rider's body. To get started, visit the Motorcycle Helmets page here: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/... Half-shell helmets and three-quarter designs provide amazing visibility and the freedom of an open road. They typically have fewer features than full-coverage helmets which makes them lighter and helps keep the price down. However, there are plenty of open-face lids that provide abundant comfort, safety and technology. These are great for scooters, cruisers, custom bikes and are finding increasing popularity in the sportbike crowd when ridden in urban settings. For competitive and sport use, full-face helmets are more common. They're a favorite for any type of street riding because they provide maximum coverage. These have excellent protection against weather, bugs and other flying debris - not to mention front impacts during a crash. They also provide a quieter ride. Face shields can be swapped out for tinted or colored versions for better optics depending on riding conditions or to suit personal style. Venting is much more important on these helmets because the rider isn't getting wind directly to the face. Modular helmets provide full-face coverage but can open up at the touch of a button to allow for open-face access. This is a feature that comes into play when stopping at a light, pausing for a bathroom break, grabbing a sip of water, pumping gas... There's any number of reasons why it's handy to get the chin bar and face shield out of the way temporarily. It helps eliminate the need to remove your helmet when accomplishing tasks, plus it makes it much easier to communicate with passengers, etc. Modular helmets come with any number of upgrades such as drop-down sun visors, Pinlock-ready shields and communication device compatibility to name a few. Off-road helmets are the obvious choice for dirt bike and ATV riders, but they can also be used for road riding as long as they pass DOT standards. These are usually very lightweight, have elongated chin bars, heavy venting options (though non-adjustable) and radical color/graphics. These can make excellent dual-sport and Adventure Touring options for riders with a dirt bias. ADV and dual-sport riders often like the stylng and vent features of an off-road helmet, but having a face shield for street riding is a big advantage. Many manufacturers are now producing hybrids that are essentially a street helmet with a motocross-style visor on the front. This helps with sun glare and offers unique styling. These helmets can be worn in multiple configurations such as with or without the visor, or with/without the face shield if a rider prefers to use MX goggles. Helmets are one of the most common items to be sold at amazing price reductions at Motorcycle-Superstore.com.
