Cleveland police officials tell 3News that a person of interest has been taken into custody in the case of two young girls who were found dead in suitcases earlier this week. According to Sgt. Freddy Diaz, public information officer for the Cleveland Division of Police, the department's homicide unit conducted a search warrant Wednesday evening in the area of East 162nd Street and Midland Avenue — where the girls' bodies were found buried in suitcases in shallow graves 48 hours earlier. Investigators identified and detained a person of interest. Diaz emphasized that the person is not under arrest at the moment. "This person is going to be interviewed and we're going to hope to continue this investigation and gather more leads," he told reporters. In new details released late Wednesday morning, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office announced that DNA testing revealed the girls are half-siblings. "At this time, neither decedent has been positively identified," according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office. "This is an ongoing investigation, and we will provide additional information as it becomes available. No further information is available at this time."
