Havan, also known as homa or homam, is a Sanskrit word that refers to any ritual wherein offerings are made into a consecrated fire. The word comes from the Sanskrit root word hu, meaning “to offer” or “to present.” Generally, the word is used in northern India, while homa is used in southern India. The Sanskrit word homa which refers to "pouring into fire, offer, sacrifice". Abhishekam means “cleansing” or “purifying”. It is a Hindu religious rite or way of praying wherein a devotee pours a liquid offering on an image or murti of the deity. Amidst the soulful chanting of mantras, the deity is bathed by the priests.
