#history #transylvania #gothic #teutons In a quiet corner of Transylvania, and in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, stands an 800-year-old Gothic church with architecture typically found in French and British religious buildings. The church now belongs to the Lutheran Protestant faith, but was once connected to the Cistercian Monastery at Cârța. Today, this ancient relic at Halmeag is the second-oldest in the country, with Cârța Monastery being the first, and both are the most easterly Gothic churches in Europe. It is also believed that for a period, the Teutonic knights were based there. This church also has a fascinating history, which is discussed, and within its walls are medieval items, rarely found in Europe, which are examined in this documentary. Narrated by Chris Halton.
