Period Furniture Before and After: 18th century French Armoire

A record of restoring a monumental 18th century French walnut armoire back to its former glory. This was the unfinished project of a late antique dealer north of Bordeaux. The armoire is emblematic of the southwest of France during the Louis XIV period, circa 1700 (this particular one being the model par excellence of the Garonne Valley). One of its most charming aspects is the remnants of a vellum label, likely from the mid 19th century, which still reads "antiquaire" (or antique dealer, in English, indicating just how long this piece has been dealt as a collectible antique). This armoire has been curated for its equivalence to one which is classified a French Historic Monument (conserved in the Château de Montbazillac).
