Join us on a peaceful adventure through the charming, lesser-known side of Bangkok’s Thonburi district! 👍 Like if you love Bangkok hidden spots! 🔔 Subscribe for more Thailand travel vlogs, street walks, and food adventures. 💬 Comment your favorite Bangkok neighborhood below! We hop off the Boat at Santa Cruz Pier (near the historic Santa Cruz Church in the old Portuguese Quarter), then wander through quiet alleyways, past colorful local homes, small shrines, and authentic community vibes on our way to two incredible hidden spots. Starting from the Santa Cruz Pier, we stroll along the river front until we hit the backstreets of Khlong San, soaking in the laid-back atmosphere away from the tourist crowds. We head down some back alleys and wonder through a pretty Chinese shrine (Guandi Ancient Temple area) and emerge at the riverside gem: My Grandparents’ House cafe – a nostalgic 90+ year-old wooden Thai-Chinese house turned cozy cafe right on the Chao Phraya River banks. Great views of the Chao Phraya River. The house is like stepping back in time. Next we walk to the serene Princess Mother Memorial Park (Suan Somdet Ya) – a beautiful green oasis honoring Srinagarindra, the beloved mother of King Rama IX. Explore the bronze statue, her childhood home replica, lush gardens, walking paths, and small museum exhibits about her incredible legacy in public health and rural development. It’s free entry, super tranquil, and perfect for a relaxing break! This short walk is an easy, off-the-beaten-path experience showcasing authentic Bangkok life, heritage, and riverside relaxation. Ideal for anyone exploring Thonburi, Khlong San, or looking for peaceful alternatives to the usual Grand Palace/Wat Arun crowds.
