The River of Life and the Final Invitation • THE BIBLE | The Complete King James V... The Book of Revelation, also known as The Apocalypse of John, is the final book of the New Testament and one of the most mysterious and symbolic writings in the Bible. Written around AD 90–95, it is traditionally attributed to the Apostle John, who received visions from God while exiled on the island of Patmos. The book reveals God’s ultimate plan for history, including the final judgment, the return of Christ, and the establishment of a new heaven and a new earth. It is a book of both warning and hope, reminding believers to remain faithful as they await the fulfillment of God’s promises. Revelation begins with a greeting to the seven churches in Asia Minor, where John describes a powerful vision of the glorified Jesus Christ, standing among seven golden lampstands, symbolizing the churches. Jesus addresses these seven churches—Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea—with messages of encouragement, rebuke, and a call to remain faithful. These messages serve not only as historical letters to real churches but also as timeless lessons for all believers. John is then taken up into the throne room of heaven, where he witnesses a scene of divine worship, with God seated in glory and surrounded by twenty-four elders and four living creatures. A scroll sealed with seven seals is presented, which only the Lamb (Jesus Christ) is worthy to open. As the seals are broken, they unleash events of judgment, war, famine, and cosmic disturbances, leading to the great tribulation on earth. Following the seals, seven trumpets are blown, bringing further judgments, including natural disasters, demonic plagues, and signs in the heavens. These plagues serve as warnings, calling people to repent, yet many refuse. John also describes spiritual warfare, revealing the rise of the Dragon (Satan), the Beast (Antichrist), and the False Prophet, who deceive the world and persecute believers. The infamous Mark of the Beast (666) is introduced, symbolizing allegiance to the Antichrist’s system, while those who refuse it face persecution but are promised eternal victory in Christ. The final series of judgments, known as the seven bowls of God’s wrath, bring ultimate destruction upon the wicked, culminating in the fall of Babylon the Great, a symbol of the corrupt world system that opposes God. This leads to the great Battle of Armageddon, where Jesus Christ returns as a victorious King, riding a white horse, to defeat the Antichrist and the forces of evil. The Beast and the False Prophet are thrown into the Lake of Fire, marking the beginning of Christ’s rule over the earth. John then describes the Millennial Kingdom, a thousand-year reign of Christ on earth, during which Satan is bound. However, after this period, Satan is released for a final rebellion but is swiftly defeated and cast into the Lake of Fire forever. This is followed by the Great White Throne Judgment, where all people stand before God, and those whose names are not found in the Book of Life are condemned to eternal separation from God.
