Standing Up for Ontario Workers: My Debate on the Buy Ontario Act (Bill 72)

I was proud to rise in the Legislature to support the Buy Ontario Act, Bill 72 — a major step toward strengthening Ontario’s economy, protecting local jobs, and making sure public dollars work for Ontarians first. In this speech, I explain why Bill 72 matters for communities like Newmarket–Aurora, and how it will help: Reinforce Ontario’s supply chain Support local manufacturers, service providers, and innovators Give hospitals, schools, and public institutions more opportunities to choose Ontario-made solutions Improve transparency, accountability, and fairness in procurement Keep over $30 billion in annual public spending right here in Ontario I also highlight real local examples — including Thermogenics and Onefinity CNC — businesses ready to serve Ontario institutions but often overlooked in favour of out-of-province suppliers. Bill 72 helps change that. The debate touches on key issues such as procurement standards, vendor performance tracking, transparent decision-making, and ensuring Ontario’s fast-growing AI industry can finally compete on a level playing field. Ontario’s future depends on building a strong, resilient, and self-reliant economy. Bill 72 moves us in that direction.
