To enter an alpine meadow in our country, one has to often spend at least a day or two trekking within the tree line. We are talking about two or three days of hard ascent. This is because most alpine meadows start at around 11,000 ft above the treeline. However, on this trek, you are in the meadows within the first 10 minutes of this trek! But from starting this trek is a steep ascent and there are no water resources till first 4 Kms so be sure to have enough water with you because with every step this trek will test you and your will power. And with such elevation gain within a few kilometres you have to be stay hydrated so that your body does not give up. This trek test your endurance but as you move forward the views starts to become more scenic which motivates you. As we went here in the month of october which is an offseason for this trek so the dhaba which comes in the way was also closed but if you trek in season you can rest there an can eat to gain energy for further ascend. The meadows on the Bhrigu Lake trek stretch far and wide. Wild horses gallop around you. The grazing sheep look up when you come out of the treeline, almost as if to greet you. From here you will see the mountains of Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar dominating the skyline. While we were here in October so the greenery was all faded but from july to September, these meadows are at their lushest green. You’ll spot wildflowers everywhere. And once we reached the basecamp (Rola Kholi) which is at 12,000 ft. we were welcomed by the most beautiful sunset like as nature has given us its premium membership. And at night with less light noise you can see the milky way galaxy and the lake of stars from here which looks magical. Well next morning when you ascend towards the summit be sure to fill all your bottles because there is no water sources after you leave the basecamp. The meadows change texture, shape, and colour but stay with you all along the trek – right until Bhrigu Lake. This is what makes the trek special. Getting a chance to be in such alpine meadows all along a trek is a rare opportunity. After 4 Kms from basecamp you reach at 14,000 ft. where the sacred lake is situated. Steeped in mythology, the lake is believed to be the meditation site of the great saint Maharishi Bhrigu and the view from here are just incredible. You will feel more connected to nature and yourself after conquering the summit. This four-day trek gives you a good idea of what Himalayan treks offer – meadows, glacial lakes and mountain views.
