#TheNewTimes #Rwanda #RDF #Patriotism #Unity #Loyalty #Youth #Liberation In an interview marking Rwanda’s Patriotism Day, on October 1, 2025, Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) spokesperson Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga shared insights into how the military defines and practices patriotism. According to him, patriotism goes beyond love for one’s country — it is a lived commitment to national unity, selfless service, discipline, and readiness to defend the nation at all costs. He emphasized that patriotism is the foundation of RDF values, interconnected with loyalty, integrity, sacrifice, and respect for others. These core principles, he noted, are not theoretical but always demonstrated through actions such as service, protecting citizens, and even being willing to pay the ultimate price when necessary. Reflecting on the significance of October 1, he explained that it marks the beginning of the 1990 liberation struggle, while July 4 [1994] marked the end of the liberation struggle and the beginning or the renaissance of a new Rwanda that is based on unity, reconciliation, and the pursuit of collective development goals. He urged Rwanda’s youth to understand this journey and carry forward the spirit of sacrifice and resilience. Rwivanga also connected RDF’s peacekeeping efforts abroad — in countries like the Central African Republic and Mozambique — to Rwanda’s moral obligation to protect civilians, shaped by the lessons learned from the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Looking ahead, he warned of ongoing threats such as genocide ideology and divisive regional politics, stressing the need to preserve unity, fight corruption, and remain vigilant. He concluded by urging young Rwandans to remain committed to national transformation and not to expect an easy path. “Nothing comes easy,” he said. “We must be ready to fight. And as they say, the struggle continues.” #CentralAfricanRepublic #Mozambique #RDF #Rwanda #PatriotismDay #Loyalty #Integrity #Sacrifice #Genocide
