Reflecting on the significance of October 1, he explained that it marks the beginning of the 1990 liberation struggle, while July 4 [1994] marked the end of the liberation struggle and the beginning or the renaissance of a new Rwanda that is based on unity, reconciliation, and the pursuit of collective development goals. He urged Rwanda’s youth to understand this journey and carry forward the spirit of sacrifice and resilience. Rwivanga also connected RDF’s peacekeeping efforts abroad — in countries like the Central African Republic and Mozambique — to Rwanda’s moral obligation to protect civilians, shaped by the lessons learned from the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
