Welcome to the first dive of our expedition in Uruguay! Located in the southernmost part of the study area, in subantarctic waters, 280 km (151 mn) southeast of Montevideo, 217 km (117 mn) from Punta del Este and 666 km (360 mn) of Rivera, at a depth of 143 m, on a gently sloping external shelf. The area has sandy bottoms and possibly a "pockmark"-shaped depression, where chemosymbiotic fauna could coexist due to the high concentration of organic matter or low oxygen levels. There may be some light, but not enough for us to see it or for photosynthesis. We will be there for four hours, testing equipment and all sample collections to adjust our work methods.
