Do you have a first aid kit in your barn? If not, please watch this video to see some of the important items you really should have in your barn or tack room. You can buy first aid kits already made that are designed for horses, but they can be really expensive, and sometimes have items included that you may not use. So instead of buying a pre-made kit, I repurposed items that I had and then created my own first aid kits. I made a portable first aid kit with an old drill container that I had in the garage.I wanted to make sure anyone who walked into my tack room would know where the first aid kit was, so I spray painted it white, and then painted a bright red cross on it, and then painted on the words First Aid. It may not be the fanciest kit, but it is very useful. There is enough room in the box to hold everything I need in case something happens with one of my horses. Another thing I did was to reuse an old medicine cabinet that had shelves in it, and I hung it up on a wall in my tack room. This holds a lot of different bottles and jars which makes it perfect to hold the masses of things I seem to have when it relates to first aid, or even general horse care. But the point of this is everything is in one place, and I can get to it quickly if I need to. I also have some plastic bins that work great for keeping together my extra first aid supplies like ace wraps, polos, tape, vet wrap, and other large items that take up a lot of space. Again, to me it is all about having the supplies I need, and having everything in a spot where I know where it is, and can access it quickly if I need to. And it's just nice to have everything organized in dedicated places because it keeps my tack room neat and tidy! If you are wondering what to put in your first aid kit for your horses, I wrote an article of my favorite top 10 items for my own first aid kit. You can view this on my website, The Budget Equestrian. http://www.thebudgetequestrian.com/ You never know when an emergency can arise, especially when horses are a part of the situation. Some horses seem to be more accident prone than others, and I just happen to have one of these type of horses, which is why I have multiple first aid kits in my barn. If you have horses, please make sure you have a first aid kit that you can access quickly in case an emergency happens! Thanks for watching!!!!
