I added the stock tubes to this comparison for variety and reference. The TAD Tubes are lightweight and fragile feeling which, in a weird way, I think I can hear in the amp and feel in the guitar. They have a crunchy top end and are not a thick sounding tube by any means. Every time I throw these tubes back in my amp I can't help but think "hollow" and "crunchy." Yet, there's still something about them... JJ E34Ls are a really good tube if you want more classic rock punch in your sound. I think they can lessen the brightness of an amp slightly and tighten up a flabby low end, but are a little more linear sounding. You Marshall guys would love these tubes. They are just a different kind of EL34. Telefunken EL34s seemed a bit louder than the TADs and the JJ E34Ls and are pretty aggressive in their own respect, but bright like an EL34. They are really nice and crisp in the upper mids and I favor them for clean and crunch channels. JJ 6CA7s still seem to be my favorite power tube. They just have the right midrange that I like for high gain channels and even more low end than a 6L6 and without the loss of detail in your picking. They are very smooth, a little darker and sound powerful. Tung-Sol 6550s are a powerhouse. I had to lower the volume of that particular track to mellow it out. The 6550s are a high power tube which means more headroom and less power tube distortion. These tubes will help your amp focus more on the sound of the preamp section. In other words they will more cleanly amplify your preamp section. They are bright, have nice midrange and plenty of low end. I find these tubes to work good for adding some upper mids and jangle to your sound. But, these tubes will definitely give your amp a more stiff feeling. JJ 6L6s are definitely a step above Tube Amp Doctor (TAD). JJ tubes in my opinion are the tubes I go to for thickness. They are very bold and even their 6L6s have some meat to them instead of just being "mid scooped" sounding like other brands such as Tung-Sol If you have any questions about any of these tubes please feel free to ask.
