Feminization Glottoplasty: how short should the vocal cords be sutured together?
During feminization glottoplasty the vocal cords are sutured together in the front so that they can vibrate faster which will raise the pitch. Male vocal cords are approximately 15 to 16 mm long and female vocal cords around 10 mm. During the feminization glottoplasty the goal is to make the vocal cords as long as female vocal cords but not any shorter since that would result in a poor vocal outcome with reduced range and inability to speak loud.
