It was founded by Kamiizumi Nobutsuna, a quite famous warrior and general of that era. Born in central Japan (Kanto), he studied different martial arts, including sword and Yari styles. He was said to be particularly fierce with a spear. He was notably a student of Aisu Iko’s famous Kage-Ryū. When he improved the style and enriched it with his own techniques, he added the prefix “Shin-” for “New”, giving birth to the “Shinkage” style. It became the “Yagyū” Shinkage Ryū when his first successor, Yagyū Munetoshi, took over the school. His own son was the famous Yagyū Munenori, official swordmaster of the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu himself, and also the chief director of his secret police during the very beginning of the Edo era. The Yagyū Shinkage Ryū is now one of the most famous sword schools in Japan. It has several branches. The one presented in this video is the mainline, still continued by the Yagyū family and currently lead by the 22nd Soke Yagyū Koichi. -- CREDITS -- Footage by Seido Co., Ltd. https://www.seidoshop.com (en) https://www.seidoshop.jp (jp) https://www.seidoshop.com/blogs/the-s...
