I've been going through the Yakuza series on Game Pass and just started Yakuza 6. What better way to get a jump start on EXP than with a familiar puzzle game? It's a little nostalgic experiencing Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 (even though this version is missing the Tetris portion) in Japanese. Reminds me when I first played the game on the Vita so many years ago before I started doing those Online Ranked videos. Energy here isn't as committed as those Online Ranked videos (and I'm definitely rusty compared to those days), but this was a fun trip down nostalgia lane. You'll even notice some slowdown from around the 12/13 win mark because I was looking up the conditions on how many opponents you need to beat on my phone (and reconfirming it around the 30th win). It's also nice to be reminded that the traditional endless mode you'd see from other Puyo games (I think... the previous 20th anniversary had it and maybe 7?) is sort of an interesting way to practice your chain building from an after chain position. Seeing instances where puzzle games are accessible in other games (ie: this one, Sonic Mania, Capcom Fighting Collection) does bring up the discussion about the general gaming community's perception of the genre. I remembered hearing around the time this game was released that a lot of traditional Yakuza players were having trouble with these challenges. Nothing else for me to really comment on outside of it being another intriguing point of reference to that discussion. Where am I with Puyo? I'm trying to motivate myself to do 1cc runs of yon and Fever, but it's been a struggle each time I'm in the mood. Also doing occasional short Online sessions on Champions & PPT2 (and watching my points rating drop due to rust). Don't think I'll be playing that newest Apple game anytime soon unless it comes out on Android or ... other game consoles.
