And so the establishment seeks to control public opinion by distorting information through doublespeak. Has corporate doublespeak - spread through the mass media and the political establishment - become pervasive in every sector of modern society? Doublespeak is used by professionals all the time. It is used ritualistically by scientists and academics - if they want to be taken seriously. It is in use by politicians, the media, and corporations. Is it a ‘pre-dawn vertical insertion,’ or is it simply an invasion? Is it a ‘pre-emptive anti-terror operation with collateral damage,’ or is it state-sanctioned murder carried out with complete impunity? Deep-chilled or frozen chickens? And what does ‘sugar-free’ really mean? Big business is only half a step behind the government in using doublespeak to deceive the population. And the mass media are their willing accomplices.
