Hind Ennaira dominates today’s Gnawa music scene, an ancient music tradition of Black African slaves in Morocco. Hind Ennaira was born in Essaouira (Morocco), the cradle of Gnawa art, Afro-Moroccan and desert blues. At a very young age she immersed herself in this special music genre, a world that initially seemed to be accessible only to men. Maalema Hind Ennaira – vocals & guenbri, Ahmed Labnoua – qraqeb,Bas Gaakeer – guitar, Rachid Khelifi – percussion 00:00 Sudani ya yemma (traditional) 10:20 Lala Aicha (traditional) (Arrangements by: Hind Ennaira, Wissal Aziz, Bas Gaakeer, Ahmed Labnoua, Through her guembri playing, she proves to the world that this traditional music also belongs to women. She created her own band and flourished into one of the maâlems who sell out halls. Originally Gnawa music was closely related to the Sufi tradition and Hind radically pulls it toward the modern age with African, Berber, and Arabian influences – with hints of rock and jazz, too.
