Cloud Seeding Over Delhi: Science, Politics & Pollution - What Really Happened Today

Delhi, one of the world’s most polluted cities, has carried out its first-ever cloud seeding experiment in an attempt to reduce air pollution. On October 28, 2025, a Cessna aircraft took off from Kanpur, loaded with flares containing silver iodide, and flew over the northern suburbs of Delhi to seed moisture-laden clouds. The ₹3.5 crore pilot project, conducted in partnership with IIT Kanpur, aims to test whether artificial rain can help bring down PM2.5 levels and improve air quality.
