Welcome back to Mechanical moments with your favorite Maser ASE certified technician, Rick Smith! The auto repair industry can be confusing, how do you really know if the person working on your car is certified and knows what they are doing? What does ASE certified mean? This is actually a trick question, no auto repair shop can be licensed. It’s the technicians who are certified by passing a written test and required to have at least two years of experience. All together, there are 8 certifications to become a master technicians. There’s also additional ones for buses and body shops and things that do not apply to our shop. In the United States, only 7% of mechanics are master certified. In addition, only 2% are master certified and have advanced level diagnostics. So, a technician could be certified to work on air conditioning, but what if he is working on your brakes? Is he certified in that area of your vehicle? Here at Mercie J, all the technicians are required to become Master Certified ASE Technicians.
