The Dutch track cyclist holds the titles of World Champion 2018, European Champion 2018, and he was runner up in the 2017 World Championships. Harrie is a former BMX rider and was European Champion in the Junior category in that event for three consecutive years. However, after crashing and dislocating both shoulders while he was on his way to being back at the top in BMX, the young athlete decided that track cycling was a better option, and so he switched events in 2015. This decision was not an easy one for Harrie who had previously undergone two surgeries on his shoulders for injuries he obtained in crashes. He has a genetic disposition to shoulder injuries and so after these setbacks, Harrie made the decision to switch to track cycling. Fortunately for him, the switch worked out in his favor since he was able to excel in track cycling in a very short space of time. Within two years after switching events, Harrie was already proving to the world that he could do whatever he set his mind to through determination and hard work. Even though he is now doing well in track cycling, Harrie recalls that the decision to switch was a hard one. But he revealed that he wanted to continue his sporting career, he was not ready to give it up and so he was motivated to carry on, especially since he loved sport and he loved his training sessions. Harrie believes in preparing himself for competitions not only physically but mentally as well. He mentions that he watches a lot of videos of his races and he also does his research on the site where each competition will be held so that he will know what to expect. He visualizes how he is going to execute his performance and believes in staying cool, calm and collected. Harrie Lavreysen is the epitome of dedication and commitment. After one of his surgeries he decided that he wanted to resume training two days later, a time when most people would opt to rest and take a break. Such a decision was definitely made out of commitment, dedication and discipline. #trackcycling #trackcyclist #cycling #olympicchannel
