It's a two-phase boss theme in the Soulsbourne style based around a loose lore scenario. I imagined this encounter as a fight with a sword-wielding 'knight/guardian’'-type enemy, embodied by the colors purple and grey. He would also have cosmic/gravity powers like Radahn in Elden Ring. I thought it would be interesting trying to compose for a character who is supposed to be good rather than the more common 'attacks you on sight for no reason’ we often get in Souls games lol. I wanted to embed tragedy into the theme given how unfortunate it would be to realize someone who was supposed to be righteous has been scheming behind everyone's back this whole time and is hostile. This would be a key quest-giver NPC that the player has already interacted with many times and considered an important ally in the story; a respected warrior who is supposed to be a steadfast guardian to the main hub area. Perhaps an astute observer would have noticed shady things along the way, but ideally it would come as a big shock to the player as this NPC turns on them and becomes a boss fight. Maybe he suddenly kills another friendly NPC before your eyes to initiate the encounter. A key distinction here is that this is not a 'fallen angel' who has succumbed to darkness. I envisioned him as a greedy, cruel, and manipulative person - an abuser of power with a lack of empathy using the influence of faith for his own personal gain, rather than a ''corrupted by dark powers' archetype. Maybe he's got a bit of Patches' energy in him. Phase 1 would be a dark and tragic 1v1 battle with no magic involved. He is moving slowly and gracefully and not trying that hard, as he assumes he can easily triumph. He might even be toying with the player. The player might be hesitant to attack him at first, still processing the sudden plot twist. This would be a slow dance, like Malenia's phase 1 in Elden Ring. As the theme gets more and more intense toward the end of phase 1, he would start adding new moves and trying harder, making it an intense but precise duel but one where he is still confident he can win. Phase 2 would begin after inflicting serious injury on him, maybe knockng his helmet off, starting a short cutscene where he becomes desperate and unrecognizable. Any ounce of previous kinship or friendship is now gone. He calls for reinforcements and acolytes run out from behind him. He infuses his sword with cosmic power and and strikes the ground, sending a shockwave toward you, accidently killing some of his reinforcements but he doesn't care of course. This would be a very hectic and fast-paced battle against both the boss and his adds, as he throws everything he's got at you since he realizes his back is up against the wall. My goal was to infuse a dark and moody Kitamura-style phase one with a more bombastic and chaotic Sakuraba-style phase two, while also taking heavy inspiration from Tai Tomisawa's regal-sounding Godfrey theme throughout the piece. And a healthy level of heavy metal influence as always. I hope you enjoyed this one and thank you so much for listening! I am very motivated to continue releasing tracks this year, so be on the lookout!
