Our speakers are from Animal Balance animalbalance.org Megan Gram, CAWA/Operations Director Renee Gutierrez, MASH Responder, RVT We explore what M.A.S.H. (Mobile Animal Sterilization Hospital) style sterilization clinics truly are and how they can help you increase access to care in your community. This session will empower you to be creative with your shelter space, (and other spaces too!), team and equipment to help increase spay/neuter capacity for your shelter or community animals (community cats included!) Led by Megan Gram, CAWA/Operations Director and Renee Gutierrez, RVT/M.A.S.H. Responder for Animal Balance, these speakers bring a wide variety of skills and knowledge to this discussion. With over 20 years of experience implementing M.A.S.H. clinics and community partnerships worldwide, and now here in the U.S., Animal Balance is one of the only organizations working both in the US and internationally to increase spay/neuter capacity in this way. This session is designed for clinic staff, shelter staff or volunteers who want to help increase spay/neuter capacity in their communities. Together we will discuss Animal Balance’s program model and how you can transform your shelter, local community center or the high school gymnasium into a safe, efficient and effective high-quality, high-volume sterilization clinic while adhering to state regulations and laws. Key Takeaways: • How MASH sterilization clinics make it possible for your team to safely bring clinics to specific neighborhoods in need, while maximizing efficiency and increasing capacity for surgery. • How thinking outside the box can help your team use an existing space in your shelter or community to increase your capacity to provide sterilization services. About Community Conversations, hosted by Maddie’s Fund: When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, animal sheltering transformed overnight. Foster-based sheltering, home-based employees and volunteers, along with collaboration galvanized our communities. The pandemic, along with social injustice, has motivated our industry to look at how we partner with our communities and confront our own biases. Shelter and rescue staff across the country began talking on a weekly basis, offering support and innovative ideas to do things differently.
